FAQ

How do I represent APDI?
You can sell us as your programmers (we wear your hat) or sell us as your business partners. Many IT consultants/businesses want to sell us as part of their staff. Individuals sell us as a business partner and simply represent us.
If I give you only a lead, which APDI closes, do I still get 20% commission?
Absolutely!!! Actually you don't need to attend any meetings or do anything after you have set up the initial contact with a customer. We will report back to you the details of the meeting and let you know the action items we will be taking to close the deal.
You can also attend every meeting we have with the client. Doesn't matter to us. But you should decide where your time is best spent and how you will earn the most commission.
I don’t know a lot about Databases. How can I sell APDI’s programming?
You don’t need any programming knowledge…. We are your experts. That’s our job. You inform your client or prospect that you are working with a team of programmers and you can setup a meeting with them to discuss the details of the project. Let APDI handle the technical aspects while you are getting us another meeting with another client.
Is this a full time job?
Actually it's whatever you want it to be. Many partners will be using this as additional income to the regular job. But there is certainly enough commission to make a substantial income if you are able to produce enough leads that can be closed. The job is commission only and on a 1099 basis.
How should a typical pitch to my client sound?
“Mr. Prospect, I have come across a programming/database development group that is extremely talented and reasonably priced. I know that you use databases and have needs for programming in these areas. This team of programmers has worked on Charles Schwab's StreetSmart for the International Monetary Fund, and AOL.
I don’t think these guys wear shoes but they can code around anyone, get projects done on time and on budget. When can I set up a meeting for you to meet with them and discuss the possibility of giving them a project?”

This is a simple script but highly effective. Breaking each sentence down:

“Mr. Prospect I have come across a programming/database development group that is extremely talented and reasonably priced” The keys are “extremely talented and reasonably priced”. This is certainly something every client wants and something we can provide.

“I know that you use databases and have needs for programming in these areas.” With very few exceptions all companies use databases of one kind or another. Programming can include Web development (HTML, Flash, XML, etc..) and application development in C++ or other languages. We program in 90% of the major programming languages, so don’t pass up a project until you have consulted with us.

“This team of programmers has worked on Charles Schwab's StreetSmart and for AOL.” Dropping these names early is key, as it certainly sets us apart from other programmers. Actually it's also possible that the prospect has already used code we have written. Typically prospect's don't even ask for references after we mention these clients. Please check out the other major projects we have worked on at www.apdi.net/OurHistory

“I don’t think these guys wear shoes but they can code around anyone, get projects done on time and on budget.” While this line at first seems a little strange with the “not wearing shoes” line, it is very well accepted as what extremely talented programmers do. It sets the stage that they are not hiring a 9-5 programmer but a group that represents ‘The backroom” where the work is really done. Typically we can code around anyone because most people suck at coding. Most programmers have a brain cramp when it comes to difficult or groundbreaking projects. APDI on the other hand has always been able to push to the limit of the code if a customer requires it. We get projects done on time because we have done so many, and are quite talented at knowing the work effort required which also allows us to stay within budget.

“When can I set up a meeting for you to meet with them and discuss the possibility of giving them a project?” Keep in mind you don't have to attend this meeting if you don’t want to. We would be glad to have you along, especially with our first project together so you can see how we operate.

What do you cover when you meet with the prospect for the first time?
Typically we cover what the project is about and what their goals are. If we can grasp the scope of the project in the first meeting, then we will offer suggestions and ideas immediately. Clients are delighted we can offer suggestions quickly and understand the depth of the project. Most clients take to our personalities and enjoy working with us.
Is there any project you won’t do?
For different reasons, there are certain projects we won't take on. The obvious one is the client who wants us to build an Amazon like site with $500 in their budget. The project is unrealistic to the budget. The other is where the client has not defined the project or is not working with us to define it. Most projects have feature-creep, where after we have laid out the cost or begin programming, the client thinks of new features they want to add. If we can accommodate these in at no additional cost we will, but most of the time these get referred to a second phase of the project to be cost out separately.
What do I do to get started?
